Amethyst is the birthstone for February and is purple gemstone ranging in colour from a light pinkish violet to a deep purple. It is a violet variety of Quartz, and throughout history, amethyst has been used to cure various ailments, including – hearing disorders, insomnia, headaches and even alcoholism!
