A variation on this theme which very nearly caught our company CFO is the following: “I am an ex-pat living in London and can’t afford to keep this (street rod, Porsche, super street tuned car, etc.). My company let me bring the car here when I moved but it is just not the car to keep here! So, I am getting rid of it and have a shipper who will move it back to the US for only 1500.00.” And so on. Sometimes, as in the case at hand, the writer gives a lot of detail about the job, about being an engineer working for a mulitnational, that makes it seem believable. As you say, a couple of deposits more than pays the rent on this scam, so it will continue. In our case, the identical story, but different car, were featured in another ad, or the check would have been in the mail.
